This specimen was lot 74014 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY. Denar, 1627-KB. Kremnica Mint. Ferdinand II. PCGS AU-58. Only lightly circulated and pleasingly toned, this hammered issue presents enticing color." This type was struck 1625-30 for Ferdinand II. The subsequent type (KM 95) was struck in large quantities 1630-37. Both are common. Emperor Ferdinand II had to content himself with a small slice in the west of Hungary. The Hapsburgs would not conquer the rest of Hungary and Transylvania until the end of the seventeenth century.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, 14-15 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-88; Huszar-1204.
