Sincona sale 98, lot 4673

This specimen was lot 4673 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 3,500 CHF (about US$5,077 including buyers' fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton, Doppeldukat 1734, Zürich. Sehr selten. Vorzüglich. (Switzerland, city and canton of Zürich, double ducat of 1734, Zürich mint. Very rare, Extremely Fine.)"

This scarce type was struck 1718-36, 1739-45, 1748, 1751-53, 1756-61 and 1767 along with quarter (Fr-488a), half (Fr-487a) and single ducats (Fr-486a). In 1798, the canton of Zürich was forcibly incorporated into the Helvetic Republic.
