This specimen was lot 21297 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $3,055. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 8 Escudos, 1735-N. Philip V (1700-46). VERY FINE. A highly desirable large gold cob SCARCE and always in demand type with a clear date and decent centering. A few light scratches, obverse and reverse." The type was struck in Lima, Peru, 1701-44; the date 1735 is listed for two and eight escudos cobs. Gold coins from colonial Peru are much scarcer than those from Colombian mints. Assayer N is recorded for 1728-39.
