Jean Elsen sale 152, lot 1825

This specimen was lot 1825 in Jean Elsen sale 152 (Brussels, September 2022), where it sold for €320 (about US$387 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Royaume, Louis XV (1715-1774), AR écu au bandeau, 1757D, Lyon. D/ T. à g., ceinte d'un bandeau. R/ Ecu de France couronné, entre deux rameaux d'olivier. Rare Léger défaut de flan sur la tranche. Patine colorée. Très Beau à Superbe. (kingdom of France, Louis XV, 1715-74, silver écu of the hair ribbon of 1757, Lyon mint. Obverse: head left, hair tied in a ribbon; reverse: crowned arms of France between two olive branches. Rare, light edge defect, colorful patina. Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"

The Lyon mint struck this type 1741-46, 1748-70 in small to moderate quantities.

Recorded mintage: unknown but few[2]

Specification: 29.45 g, 0.917 fine silver, 39 mm diameter, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM. This specimen 29,30 g.
