Goldberg sale 128, lot 1324
G128-1324r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1324 in Goldberg sale 128 (Los Angeles, June 2022), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "France. Louis d'or au bandeau, 1757-A (Paris). Louis XV. Pop. 1; Finest of two graded at PCGS. PCGS graded AU-55." The louis d'or au bandeau was introduced in 1740 and was struck at all the mints. The year 1757 was not a good one for louis d'or, with no common dates. Most issues of this type by the Paris mint are common but this one is rare.

Recorded mintage: 19,299, a rare date not priced[2].

Specification: 8.15 g, 0.917 fine gold, 24 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by J. C. Röettiers.

Catalog reference: Fr-464, Dr/4 № 801, Dr/2 № 543, KM 513.1, Dupl-1643; Gad-341.
