This specimen was lot 1091 in Goldberg's NY International sale 58 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $6,300. The catalog description[1] noted, "France. Louis XV (1715-1774). Gold Louis d'or au bandeau, 1757-C. Caen mint. Sharply struck with full original mint brilliance. Rare mint. Pop 1; Only one graded by both services. In NGC holder graded MS 64." The louis d'or au bandeau was introduced in 1740 and was struck at all the mints. The type is common altho most individual dates are rare.
Recorded mintage: 1,850, priced as common[2].
Specification: 8.16 g, 0.917 fine gold, 22-23 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by J. C. Roëttiers.
