Goldberg sale 84, lot 4226
Great Britain G84-4226r.jpg

This specimen was lot 4226 in Goldberg sale 84 (Los Angeles, January 2015), where it sold for $117.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain. Penny, 1743. George II. Deeply toned and high grade for a tiny Georgian coin. NGC graded MS-62." This type was struck 1729-60 and, tho not rare, is difficult to find in nice condition. It is difficult to appreciate that prior to 1797, all English pennies were struck in silver, a holdover from medieval issues.

Specification: 0.50 g, 0.925 fine silver, .014 troy oz ASW.

Recorded Mintage: unknown.

Catalog reference: S.3715A; ESC-2339; KM-567.
