The first coin was lot 8692 in Ponterio sale 150 (Los Angeles, August 2009), where it sold for $1,753.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 2 Escudos, 1755-JM. First date of this scarce type. Light adjustment marks on reverse. CHOICE VERY FINE-ABOUT EXTREMELY FINE." The second specimen was lot 1240 in Sedwick Auction 37 (Winter Park, FL, May 2025), where it sold for $28,800. The catalog description[2] noted, "PERU, Lima, gold bust 2 escudos, Ferdinand VI, 1755 JM, second bust, rare, NGC AU 55, finest and only example in NGC census, ex-Almenara. Choice details with nice luster, light high-point wear only, hard to imagine a nicer example. Pedigreed to the Almenara Collection." The type was struck in Lima, Peru, 1755-60. It is much scarcer from Peru than from the Colombian mints. Assayer JM is recorded for 1751-72.
