Sincona sale 38, lot 1755

This specimen was lot 1755 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 3,400 CHF (about US$4,078 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"Felipe V. 1700-1746 2 Escudos 1711. LM-Lima. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich. (Peru, Philip V, 1700-46, two escudos of 1711, Lima mint. Rare in this condition, Extremely fine.)"

Assayer M is recorded for 1709-28. Cobs were struck at Lima until 1752, twenty years after Mexico City had switched to milled coinage. This type was struck 1701-16, 1720-23, 1728, 1733-36, 1741, 1744 and is rare, especially with a legible date.
