Aureo y Calicó sale 447, lot 1171

This specimen was lot 1171 in Aureo y Calicó sale 447 (Barcelona, March 2025), where it sold for 60 € (about US$78 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1625. Felipe IV. Segovia. 4 maravedis. J.S. only records this type of aqueduct in the year 1624. One-storey vertical aqueduct with two arches on the right bounded by dots. Attractive. Very rare, especially in this condition. MBC+ [choice very fine]." This type was hammered at Segovia 1621-26 and is common. At this time, Segovia was the only Spanish mint using the screw press; the products of the other mints (Burgos, Coruña, Cuenca, Granada, Madrid, Seville, Toledo, Valladolid) were hammered.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 2.3 g, copper, 20 mm diameter, this specimen 3.77 g.

Catalog reference: Cayón unlisted, KM 7.6, AC-247.
