This specimen was lot 6378 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. Sovereign, 1891-S. Sydney Mint. Victoria. NGC MS-62. A well struck example with minimal signs of handling in the fields and a vibrant yellow gold luster throughout." This "jubilee head" type was struck 1887-93 at the Sydney and Melbourne mints. The shield reverse used 1871-87 was retired. The Sydney mint was opened in 1855 to strike the gold found in Australia and was not employed to strike ordinary circulation coinage until 1920. It closed in 1926.
