This specimen was lot 1374 in Jean Elsen sale 111 (Brussels, December 2011), where it sold for €175 (about US$269 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NEDERLAND, UTRECHT, Provincie, AR scheepjesschelling (6 stuiver), 1789, Droit: Gekroond provinciewapen. Revers: Driemaster zeilend nue radié. Ref.: Prachtig à FDC. (Netherlands, province of Utrecht, silver ship shilling (six stuiver) of 1789. Obverse: crowned arms of the province; reverse: three masted ship under full sail. Extremely fine to mint state.)"
This type was struck starting in 1697 and intermittently all the way thru the eighteenth century.
Recorded mintage: 63,275 for 1697-98.
Specification: 4.95 g, 0.583 fine silver, .093 troy oz ASW, this specimen 4,72g.
