Sincona sale 83, lot 5077

This specimen was lot 5077 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$1,071 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND Zug, 20 Kreuzer 1692, Zug. Selten. Sehr schön. Übliche Prägeschwäche. Rare, Very fine, With the usual weak strike." This rare type is listed in the SCWC as a 1/6 thaler; in the late seventeenth century, this coin would have been one-third gulden or 2/9 of a thaler.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 4.75 g, silver, 29 mm diameter, this specimen 4.75 g.

Catalog reference: KM 40, Wielandt (Zug) 87, D.T. 1245a, HMZ 2-1093a.
