This specimen was lot 1240 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 4,750 CHF (about US$5,697 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Schlesien-Liegnitz-Brieg, Herzogtum, Ludwig, 1653-1663 Dukat 1661. Brieg. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Gutes vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Silesia-Liegnitz-Brieg, Louis, 1653-63, ducat of 1661, Brieg mint. Very rare in this condition, Good extremely fine.)"
Silesia is considered a German State even tho the province was then under Austrian rule and is now in Poland. In addition to this type, the duke also struck Fr-3200 and Fr-3208 ducats in 1661.
Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.42 g.
Catalog reference: F.u.S. 1874. Fr-3205, KM 460.
