Sincona sale 33, lot 2433

This specimen was lot 2433 in Sincona sale 33 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 4,500 CHF (about US$5,342 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Schlesien-Liegnitz-Brieg, Herzogtum. Christian, 1639-1672 Dukat 1660. Selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Silesia-Liegnitz-Brieg, Christian, 1639-72, ducat of 1660. Rare, Very fine-extremely fine.)"

Silesia is considered a German State even tho the province was then under Austrian rule and is now in Poland. In addition to this type, the duke also struck Fr-3200 and Fr-3202 ducats in 1660.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: 3.5 g, .986 gold, .110 troy oz AGW, this specimen 3.45 g.
