Saxe-Weimar 1619-WA goldgulden Fr-3014

Sincona sale 38, lot 1238

This specimen was lot 1238 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$960 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"Sachsen-Weimar, Herzogtum, Johann Ernst und seine sieben herzoglichen Brüder, 1605-1619 Goldgulden 1619. Saalfeld. Sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Weimar, John Ernest and his seven brothers, 1605-19, goldgulden of 1619, Saalfeld mint, Very fine.)"

This type of 1613-19 is listed in the SCWC with a specification equal to a ducat but goldgulden were usually slightly lighter and lower in fineness. This accompanies a rather common thaler featuring the eight brothers (Dav-7529).

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.

Specification: 3.25 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 3.21 g.
