Sincona sale 65, lot 158

This specimen was lot 158 in Sincona sale 65 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 650 CHF (about US$856 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"5 Kopecks 1816, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB MF. Extraordinary condition. NGC MS63. (5 копеек 1816, СПб МД, СПБ МФ. Биткин 265. Исключительная сохранность. В слабе NGC MS63.)"

This type was struck 1810-26 and is fairly common.

Recorded mintage: 1,040,000 including an 1816/5 overdate.

Specification: 1.04 g, 0.868 fine silver.
