Stack's Bowers 2025 NYINC sale, lot 32276

This specimen was lot 32276 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Ruble, 1816-CNB NC. St. Petersburg Mint. Alexander I. NGC MS-61. Variety with large crown. Though some staining is noted upon both sides, this glistening Mint State stunner remains without any evidence of time spent in circulation." This type was struck 1810-26 in large quantities but is today very rare in nice condition. The succeeding type (Dav-282) is very similar but with a modified eagle. Several assayers (ПC and МФ) exist for this date.

Recorded mintage: 1,782,000.
