The first specimen was lot 4147 in Sincona sale 67 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$593 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"IRAN | Qajar Dynasty | Nâsir al-dîn Shâh, 1264-1313 H./1848-1896 AD, Machine struck coinage, always with the mint name Tihrân, gold coins and patterns for gold coins. 1/5 Toman 1295 H. Rare. Scratches. About extremely fine."
The second specimen was lot 1037 in Sincona sale 85 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 2,200 CHF (about US$2,963 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"IRAN, Nasir al-Din Shah, 1264-1313 AH (1848-1896). 1/5 Toman 1295 AH (1878 AD), Tehran Mint. Lion & Sun type. NGC MS66. Cabinet piece and magnificent first strike. From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 5. Bought from S. Cordry, San Diego, 1982. Finest certified by NGC."
This gold coin, one of the first milled coins of Iran, was worth one-fifth of a toman. With the coming of the milled coinage, all of the branch mints were closed and all production was completed in Tehran.
