Sincona sale 18, lot 3150

This specimen was lot 3150 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 475 (about US$626 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Taler 1658. Krumau. Sehr schön-gutes sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Eggenberg, thaler of 1658, Krumau mint, very fine.)"

The dukes of Eggenberg were Austrian noblemen awarded the mint right for their services to the emperor. They must have exercised it to the utmost as this type is fairly common.

Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly common.
