Sincona sale 90, lot 1729

This specimen was lot 1729 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 1,100 CHF (about US$1,454 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Eggenberg, Herzogtum, Johann Christoph und Johann Seyfried von Eggenberg, 1649-1710. 1/4 Taler 1655, Krumau. Mit dem Münzmeisterzeichen V-S (Veit Scheiblhoffer, Münzmeister in Krumau 1651-1658). Selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Kratzer und Schrötlingsriss. (Austrian states, duchy of Eggenberg, John Christopher and John Seyfried, 1649-1710, quarter thaler of 1655, Krumau mint. Rare, Very fine-extremely fine, Flan crack and scratches.)"

This coin was minted in 1655 and 1658 for the obscure Austrian family of Eggenberg. This type is rare, like all the issues from this locale.
