Sincona sale 90, lot 1731

This specimen was lot 1731 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 2,100 CHF (about US$2,775 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Eggenberg, Herzogtum, Johann Christoph und Johann Seyfried von Eggenberg, 1649-1710. 1/2 Taler 1658, Krumau. Mit dem Münzmeisterzeichen V-S (Veit Scheiblhoffer, Münzmeister in Krumau 1651-1658). Gutes sehr schön. Feine Patina. Kleine Sammlerpunze im Rand. (Austrian states, duchy of Eggenberg, John Chrospher and John Seyfried, half thaler of 1658, Krumau mint. Good very fine, Nice patina, Small collector's hallmark on edge.)"

This coin was minted in 1654 and 1658 for the obscure Austrian family of Eggenberg. This type is rare, like all the issues from this locale.
