This specimen was lot 31325 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $7,050. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 20 Pesos 1902 Cn-Q MS63 Prooflike NGC, Culiacan mint. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated, with abundant mint luster as expected for the designation. Now starting to tone with a most attractive orange and reddish color. A perfect type coin for this issue and rare in this select preservation. From The FoxLair Collection." This type was struck at Culiacan 1870-1905. The type is also recorded from Mexico City, Durango, Guanajuato, Alamos, Chihuahua, Hermosillo, Oaxaca and Zacatecas but Mexico City is by far the most prolific issuer. The 1902CnQ is considered a common date. Mintage figures are not a reliable indicator of rarity for this type due to the accidents of hoarding; many low mintage issues are readily available while other high mintage issues are very rare.

Recorded mintage: 1,059.

Specification: 33.84 g, 0.875 fine gold, .953 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM 414.2, Fr-122.
