This specimen was lot 2434 in Sincona sale 51 (Zurich, October 2018), where it sold for 750 CHF (about US$905 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"I. Kaiserreich. Napoleon I. 1804-1815. 20 Francs 1812 M, Toulouse. Sehr selten. Nur 6498 Exemplare geprägt. Gutes sehr schön. (France, first empire, Napoleon I, 1804-15, twenty francs of 1812, Toulouse mint. Very rare. Only 6498 pieces struck, Good very fine.)"
This issue, from the Toulouse mint, is a rare date of a type struck 1809-15. The twenty francs of Napoleon are divided into seven types, of which this is the final and most numerous. It was demonetized in 2005 but ceased to circulate in France during World War One.
A complete set of this type comprises 45 date and mintmark combinations. The entire production run, 1809-15, totaled about 14.3 million pieces. This date is priced over triple the common date (1811A or 1812A).
Specification: 21 mm diameter, 6.45 grams, 0.900 fine gold, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE. Designed by Jean-Pierre Droz (1746-1823) and Pierre Joseph Tiolier (1763-1819). This specimen 6.40 g.
Recorded Mintage: 6,432[1].
