Belgium 1867 franc rev DSLR.jpg

The first specimen was lot 1435 in Jean Elsen sale 143 (Brussels, December 2019), where it sold for €100 (about US$131 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold II (1865-1909), AR 1 franc, 1867. Superbe à Fleur de Coin. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold II, 1865-1909, silver franc of 1867. Extremely Fine - Uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1866-69 and 1881-86 at the Brussels mint. It is extremely common in low grade but hard to find nice. The specification matches the French one franc of Napoleon III.

Recorded mintage: 6,552,000, the highest mintage date.

Specification: 5 g, 0.835 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 28.1, Dupriez 1083.
