Denmark 1899-HC VBP 2 kroner

This specimen was lot 32871 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $940. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Christian IX 2 Kroner 1899 HC/VBP MS65 NGC, Copenhagen mint. Celebrated white centers with golden toning at the peripheries. The single finest graded at NGC." Danish currency endured several "reforms" in the nineteenth century. In 1874, the coinage was reformed again to the current system of 100 øre = one krone. This type was struck 1875-76, 1897, 1899 for Christian IX (1863-1906) as king of Denmark. It is scarce, scarcer than the contemporary commemoratives such as KM 800.
