This type was struck 1948-94 and has little collector value except for some of the early proofs. This date, along with 1968, 1969 and 1971, was available only from the collector sets. Austria began minting euros in 2002, rendering this coin obsolete. The old Hapsburg eagle clasped an orb and scepter, symbols of imperial power; the republican eagle holds a hammer and sickle, symbols of the hard work needed to rebuild from the disaster of World War Two. In 1982, US$1 = 16.7 schilling.
Recorded mintage: 144,000 proofs.
Specification: 2.5 g, zinc, 19 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 2875.
