Sincona sale 77, lot 2954

This specimen was lot 2954 in Sincona sale 77 (Zurich, May 2022), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916. 4 Kreuzer 1868 KB, Kremnitz. Vorzüglich-FDC. (empire of Austria, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, four kreuzer of 1868, Kremnitz mint. Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

After the reorganization of the Hapsburg empire into the Dual Monarchy in 1867, Hungary received her own coinage separate from Austrian issues. Copper four kreuzer of the imperial type (KM 2194) were struck 1860-64 at Vienna (mintmark A), Kremnitz (B) and Karlsburg (E). This four krajczar, with a different obverse, was struck 1868 only for Hungary.

Recorded mintage: 3,099,298 plus restrikes.

Specification: 13.30 g, copper, 27 mm diameter, this specimen 13.13 g.

Catalog reference: KM 442, Huszar 2170, Herinek 85, Veselý 108.
