France AN13A demi franc rev DSLR.jpg

This issue, from the Paris mint, is the highest mintage reported for the type. A complete set of this type (An 12-14) comprises 25 date and mintmark combinations, some very rare. In 1806 the French revolutionary calendar was dropped and normal AD dating resumed. The specimen shown is a doubled die obverse variety, most visible on the back of Napoleon's neck, but Le Franc[1] notes that it is as common as the normal.

Specification: 18 mm diameter, 2.5 grams, 0.900 fine silver, decorated edge. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.

Mintage: 426,412[1], 427,000[2].

Catalog reference: F.174/10, KM 655.1.
