This type, featuring the first bust of the queen, was issued in large quantities 1953-62. The first two years (1953-54) were nickel plated steel (KM 50).

Recorded mintage: 37,157,433.

Specification: 4.54 g, nickel, 21.23 mm diameter, designed by Mary Gillick and George Kruger Gray.
