Stack's Bowers sale of the L. E. Bruun Collection, lot 1181

This specimen was lot 1181 in Stack's Bowers sale of the L. E. Bruun Collection (Copenhagen, September 2024), where it sold for €15,600 (about US$17,288 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"Beautifully Toned Overdate Half Speciedaler, NORWAY. 1/2 Speciedaler, 1634/3. Christiania Mint. Christian IV. NGC EF-45. Mintmaster: Anders Pedersen. An EXCESSIVELY RARE date with distinct details for the the grade and beautiful cabinet toning throughout. The date has been altered in the die from 1633 with the original date remaining clearly visible."

The specie daler of 1628 marks the resumption of coinage in Norway after it lapsed in the 1540's. This half specie daler was struck without interruption 1629-47. Numista mentions this overdate.

Specification: 14.62 g, 0.882 fine silver, this specimen 14.33 g.
