Sincona sale 85, lot 1174

This specimen was lot 1174 in Sincona sale 85 (Zurich, October 2023), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,347 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Muhammad Ali Shah, 1324-1327 AH (1907-1909). 500 Dinars 1327 AH (1909/1910 AD), Tehran Mint. Bust type. Very rare, especially in this condition. NGC MS65. Cabinet piece. From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 190. Bought from Dr. A. Shams-Aram, London, 1982. Finest certified by NGC."

This scarce type was struck AH 1326-1327. Another 500 dinars was struck in AH 1327 with a lion obverse (KM 1036).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 2.30 g, 0.900 fine silver, 18 mm diameter.
