Heritage sale 3064, part of lot 33118
GB H3064-33118d.jpg

This specimen was part of lot 33118 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), which sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "Four-Piece Certified Victoria Maundy Set 1890, graded MS65 to MS66 NGC, KM770, -771, -758, and -773. Magenta-colored hues nicely compliment the brilliant cartwheel luster exemplified by all four of these pieces." By Victoria's reign, the silver penny, tuppence and groat were obsolete as circulating coins and were issued only for the Maundy sets as shown here. The silver threepence continued in circulation until after World War Two.

Recorded mintage: 8,613.

Specification: 0.94 g, 0.925 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 771.
