Stephen Album internet sale 28, lot 1062

This specimen was lot 1062 in Stephen Album internet sale 28 (Santa Rosa, CA, July 2024), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY: Vittorio Emanuele II, 1861-1878, AE 10 centesimi, 1863, an attractive mint state example with ample orange luster, PCGS graded MS64 BN." This issue was not mintmarked like the other denominations; it could have been produced at Milan, Turin or Naples. The other copper denominations (one, two and five centesimi) were struck in 1861-62 and again in 1867. The immense mintage was thought needed to replace all the local coinage then circulating prior to unification.

Recorded mintage: 80,000,000.

Specification: 10 g, copper, 30 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-11.2.
