This specimen was lot 22543 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Bronze Medallic 10 Centimes, 1853. Paris Mint. Napoleon III. PCGS MS-66+ Red Brown Gold Shield. Commemorating the visit of the Emperor & Empress to the Bourse at Lille, 23-24 September. Intensely radiant and lustrous, this stunning red-brown Gem sits atop the census at PCGS as the finest which they have certified. Wholly captivating and mesmerizing." This medallic coinage was struck in bronze (shown here), silver and gold. Doubtless the emperor himself received the gold specimens. A medallic five centimes was also issued on this occasion. Despite the auction description, these were made in Lille. No mintmark appears on the coins themselves.
