This specimen was lot 45906 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $45. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Bronze Medallic 5 Centimes, 1853. Paris Mint. Napoleon III. PCGS VF-35. By Barre. Commemorating the visit of the Emperor & Empress to the Bourse at Lille, 23-24 September. From the Richard Margolis Collection." This medallic coinage was struck in bronze (shown here), silver and gold. Doubtless the emperor himself received the gold specimens. A medallic ten centimes was also issued on this occasion. Despite the auction description, these were made in Lille. No mintmark appears on the coins themselves.

Recorded mintage: 2,000 plus more in silver and gold.

Specification: 5 g, bronze.

Catalog reference: KM-M23, Maz-1752b.
