Guatemala 1895 peso

from Steve Album sale 27, lot 1756

This specimen was lot 1756 in Stephen Album sale 27 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GUATEMALA: AR peso, 1895. Bright white except a few small areas of light toning near rims, NGC graded MS65." This type was minted in Guatemala in large numbers 1894-97 with help from the Heaton mint in Birmingham, England. It is the last in a series of seated liberty designs beginning in 1872. They were struck to displace the Chilean pesos and Peruvian soles counterstamped in 1894.

Recorded mintage: 1,415,000 plus 375,000 from Heaton.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, .723 troy oz ASW.
