SB0123-40837r.jpg

This specimen was lot 40837 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. Yuan, 1986. NGC PROOF-64 Ultra Cameo. International Year of Peace." This denomination was used for numerous NCLT's in 1986, including KM 131 (1/20 oz gold panda), KM 139 and 140 (soccer), KM 141 (Sima Qian), KM 142 (Zhang Heng), KM 143 (Cai Lun), KM 144 (Zu Chong Zhi), KM 148 (shown here), KM 150 (silver panda) and KM 152 (sailing ship Empress of China). This and other early commemoratives often had low mintages as there was no domestic market for them and they sold poorly overseas.

Recorded mintage: 1,350.

Specification: 18.61 g, 0.925 fine silver, 0.553 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM-148 (formerly KM Y119).
