Künker sale 400, lot 404

This specimen was lot 404 in Künker sale 400 (Berlin, February 2024), where it sold for €15,000 (about US$19,460 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"DIE GEISTLICHKEIT IN DEN HABSBURGISCHEN ERBLANDEN, Erzherzog Karl von Österreich, 1613-1624. Doppelter Reichstaler 1618, Neisse. Von großer Seltenheit. Etwas schwach ausgeprägt, sehr schön. (Austrian states, bishopric of Brixen, archduke Charles of Austria, 1613-24, double thaler of 1618, Neisse mint. Extremely rare, slightly weakly struck, very fine.)"

Brizen lies in the Austrian Alps between Trent and Salzburg. The bishop issued very little coinage; this is the only double thaler listed in the SCWC. A thaler (Dav-3459) also exists.
