Brixen 1616 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 403 in Künker sale 400 (Berlin, February 2024), where it sold for €1,900 (about US$2,465 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DIE GEISTLICHKEIT IN DEN HABSBURGISCHEN ERBLANDEN, Erzherzog Karl von Österreich, 1613-1624. 1/2 Reichstaler 1616, Neisse. RR Leichte Bearbeitungsspuren, sehr schön. Exemplar Auktion Münchner Münzhandlung Karl Kreß 138, München 1967, Nr. 2154a, der Auktion Münzen und Medaillen AG, Basel 1970, Nr. 182 und der Auktion Adolph Hess AG 246, Luzern 1977, Nr. 1018. (Austrian states, bishopric of Brixen, archduke Charles of Austria, 1613-24, half thaler of 1616, Neisse mint. Very rare, lightly tooled, very fine.)"
Brixen lies in the Austrian Alps between Trent and Salzburg. The bishop issued very little coinage; the SCWC does not list any half thalers for this state.
