Sincona sale 34, lot 4095

This specimen was lot 4095 in Sincona sale 34 (Zurich, October 2016), where it sold for 650 CHF (about US$772 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Rudolf II. 1576-1612 Taler 1600. Kuttenberg Münzmeister Hans Spiess. Sehr schön, Dunkle Tönung. (Holy Roman Empire, Rudolf II, 1576-1612, thaler of 1600, Kuttenberg mint, mintmaster Hans Spiess. Very fine, dark toning.)"

This particular type is a product of the Kuttenberg mint for 1578-1602. Davenport lists over 130 different thalers for Austria in the sixteenth century.
