This specimen is a slightly scarce date of a series struck 1898-1904 at the Culiacan mint, which closed in 1905. A rare 1904/3 overdate is also noted. Altho centavos, silver pesos and gold twenty pesos are known from Culiacan for 1905, no twenty centavos are known for that date. This twenty centavo piece replaced the twenty-five centavo piece struck 1869-92. The first specimen was lot 9017 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $115. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Culiacan. 20 Centavos, 1904-CnH. NGC MS-63."
