This specimen was lot 73299 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "FINLAND. 50 Markkaa, 1981-K. Helsinki Mint. PCGS MS-69. Commemorating the 80th birthday of President Kekkonen and 25th year of Presidency. Superb and essentially flawless." Urho Kaleva Kekkonen (1900-86) was president of Finland 1956-82 and pursued a policy of "active neutrality" between NATO and the USSR. This NCLT was issued while he was still alive and in office.
Recorded mintage: 500,000.
