This specimen was lot 23437 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "FALKLAND ISLANDS. 50 Pounds, 1992. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. Reported mintage: 400. Struck to honor the centennial of the Falklands Defense Force. A brilliant Proof with hard mirrored fields and frosted cameo devices. The most recent offering of this scarce issue was as part of a group lot in a Heritage NYINC sale (January 2007, lot 51038)." The Falkland Islands, off the coast of Argentina in the south Atlantic Ocean, last made the news in 1982, when Argentina attempted to conquer the islands but were ousted by Her Majesty's Armed Forces. The islands remain a British dependency.
