This specimen was lot 24482 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $1,997.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Elizabeth II Proof gold 100 Pounds 1990, PF69 Ultra Cameo NGC, 90th birthday of the Queen Mother." The Falkland Islands, off the coast of Argentina in the south Atlantic Ocean, last made the news in 1982, when Argentina attempted to conquer the islands but were ousted by Her Majesty's Armed Forces. The islands remain a British dependency.
