This specimen was lot 23827 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $1,292.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Jose I gold 6400 Reis 1768-R, AU58 NGC. Briefly passing in and out of circulation with natural pebbly luster from lightly rusted dies. From The RLM Collection, Part II." This type was struck 1751-77 and is among the more available colonial gold coins of Brazil.

Recorded mintage: 424,000.

Specification: 14.34 g, 0.917 fine gold, .422 troy oz AGW.
