This specimen was lot 23826 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $1,410. The catalog description[1] noted, "Jose I gold 6400 Reis 1767-R, MS62 NGC. Deeply lustrous with bright orange-gold surfaces. Essentially Select if not for some typical striking weakness in the reverse crown. From The RLM Collection, Part II." This type was struck 1751-77 and is among the more available colonial gold coins of Brazil.

Recorded mintage: 476,000.

Specification: 14.34 g, 0.917 fine gold, .422 troy oz AGW.
