CNG Lissner collection, lot 1282

This specimen was lot 1282 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $786.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRAZIL, Colonial. Jose I. King of Portugal, 1750-1777. AR 640 Réis. Lisboa (Lisbon) mint. Dated 1768. “SVBQ”. In NGC encapsulation graded AU 58. Choice AU with lovely lustrous surfaces and hues of amber in the patina. A two year only type. Finer of two graded, the other at XF 45. Ex World-Wide Coins of California 47 (12 May 2005), lot 258." This is the first of two varieties for the date, the other having the reverse legend spelled "SUBQ." The other date is 1771.

Recorded mintage: 63,000.

Specification: 17.80 g, 0.917 fine silver, this specimen Ø37 mm, 17.89 g, 12h axis.
