This specimen was lot 71765 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "FINLAND. 100 Markkaa, 1991-PM. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. Mintage: 700. An attractive example, this nice piece displays a pleasing contrast between device and field and near perfect eye appeal." This denomination was also used for the ice hockey championship (KM 69) in 1991. The Åland islands are an archipelago in the Baltic Sea between Finland and Sweden. The coinage of Finland was reformed in 1963, with 100 old markkaa = 1 new markka.
Recorded mintage: 100,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 24 g, 0.925 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM-70.
