Iran SH1310 1/2 pahlavi

Heritage sale 3067, lot 34507

This specimen was lot 34507 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $600. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Iran: Reza Shah gold 1/2 Pahlavi SH 1310 (1931) AU58 NGC. A scarcer type in higher grades that retains a soft, lemony hue with light signs of handling preventing a higher grade. AGW 0.1177 oz." The pahlavi, named after the family of the dynasty's founder, Reza Shah, was first struck in 1926 (KM 111) but the first issues were only 1.92 g. In 1931 the system was reformed and the new pahlavi matched the British sovereign in gold content. This rare type was struck 1931-36.
